Last day of campaigning for Albania’s general elections

TIRANA - The electoral campaign across Albania for the upcoming general elections ends on Friday evening paving the way to voting on Sunday, June 25, ATA reports.

On Friday evening, the Socialist Party is scheduled to hold its final rally at the Lungomare square in Vlora. Prime Minister Edi Rama said in a posting on the Facebook that he was going to end the 30-day electoral campaign with the great rally in Vlora.

“Vlora, the final station of the flag, in its journey toward June 25”, writes the prime minister.

The Democratic Party of the opposition will end its campaign with a rally at the “Mother Teresa” square in Tirana.

While the Socialist Movement for Integration announced it will end its campaign with a meeting in Fier at 18 hrs.

During the 30-days of electoral campaign, 18 political subjects that will compete on Sunday, displayed before the electorate their programmes and alternatives for development of the country during the next four years.

According to the Electoral Code, electoral campaign ends 24 hours prior the Election Day and is followed by election silence.

“The day prior the elections and the election day, until polling stations close, are a period of election silence. No campaign is allowed via the media organs or stage of rallies or other electoral activity by the electoral subjects”, stipulates article 77 of the Electoral Code.

June 25 elections are for 140 lawmakers who will be elected through the regional proportional system. The country is divided into 12 regions and the votes will be calculated in a proportional way within every region.

There are 18 parties registered as electoral subjects. In these elections, the political forces compete alone and have not formed coalitions.
