Status of Russian humanitarian centre in Niš to be resolved by next gov’t

BELGRADE - The issue of the status of staff at the Serbian-Russian humanitarian centre in Niš will be resolved by the future government, Serbian Acting PM Ivica Dačić said on Monday, Tanjug reports.

After all misunderstandings with the EU had been clarified, the issue of the employees’ status emerged, and there was major politicisation regarding whether or not they should be given extraterritorial status, which is untrue, he said.

“There was a proposal to give them the status of administrative and technical staff, like in embassies – the same that other countries and organisations, such as the US or NATO, have. Then some US politicians asked why humanitarian workers were seeking diplomatic status,” Dačić said, noting that the Red Cross had diplomatic status everywhere in the world.

“This issue is being politicised, and we will see how it is going to be resolved,” Dačić said.
