Speaking to reporters from Serbia, Stoltenberg said he believed the country was also capable of maintaining its integrity in its relations with the Russian Federation.

NATO is very appreciative of the partnership it has with Serbia – I myself have visited Serbia several times and met with then-PM Aleksandar Vučić, Stoltenberg said.

Some of NATO’s closest partners are militarily neutral countries, such as Sweden or Finland, he said, adding that military neutrality was a sovereign right of every sovereign state.

Serbia is an independent nation that has the right to determine its future, he said.
