“The visit, which will follow the recent meetings of Marković with Vice President Pence and State Secretary Rex Tillerson in Washington, is another confirmation of the excellent political relations between Montenegro and the United States and the strategic partnership of the two countries,” it was said in the statement.
Marković invited Pence to visit Montenegro during official talks held on 5 June in the White House.
“Vice president Pence is the highest ranking US official to visit Montenegro in more than a hundred years since the two countries established diplomatic relations. At the same time, it will be the first visit to the region by the top official and first associate of US President Donald Trump,” the government added.
Pence will also meet President Filip Vujanović.
The government added that Marković would host the special meeting of the leaders of the Atlantic Charter (A5) member states.
“The summit will be held on 2 August in Podgorica and Mr Pence will participate in it. It will be the most important international gathering held in our country so far. Invitations to it are sent to the leaders of Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Albania and Macedonia, which form the Atlantic Charter (A5) along with Montenegro, as well as countries having observer status – Serbia, Kosovo and Slovenia,” the statement said.
